Counseling from the comfort of your own home.

Research continues to show that telehealth or online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy sessions. Online therapy is convenient, flexible, and private. Whether you are in a large city or in a small rural town, you can access therapy from the comfort of your own home. Save time and money by skipping the drive to your appointments. Fitting therapy in your schedule has never been easier. You can schedule before work/school or even during lunch. No need for childcare or canceling appointments if slightly ill or housebound. Avoid freezing temps, driving in ice, or sweating in a hot car. Stay cozy in your pajamas, with your dog or cat on your lap, and a hot cup of tea all while focusing on your mental health and wellbeing.

How Therapy Works

Therapy is a time that you set aside to work on problem areas in your life. It is a space where you can feel seen and heard as you develop a therapeutic relationship of trust and safety with your Therapist. The Therapist will facilitate the healing process by providing tools, skills and activities that help get to the root of the symptoms that are causing distress. You will work alongside your therapist to create attainable goals and be in control of your process.

Online Therapy is Confidential

I primarily use Zoom, along with a few backups such as SimplePractice, all are HIPAA compliant platforms, to ensure that all sessions are confidential. My licenses allow me to provide online therapy, throughout the states of Indiana, Iowa, Arkansas, Michigan, Florida, South Carolina, and Vermont. Telehealth in Florida, more information here.

Tips and Tricks

To keep therapy confidential you should have a quiet and safe place where you won’t experience too many interruptions or distractions. I recommend having a set of headphones for even more confidentiality. Turn off notifications on your computer and phone once we are connected.

I encourage clients to do a test log in prior to our appointment to make sure that everything is working well on their side. You can check that your mic, speakers, and video are working this way.  It takes a few seconds after you log into the waiting room for us to show up on each other’s screens.  That’s normal.  If it seems to be taking an inordinate amount of time, feel free to text, email, or call me so that we can troubleshoot together.

It’s important to have a strong Wi-Fi network connection. If your Wi-Fi is spotty please ensure that no one in your home is streaming video or playing online video games as this will decrease our internet connection. Please be sure to EXIT out of any programs that steal bandwidth prior to our sessions. QUIT (don’t just minimize) skype, google drive back up, or any other cloud backup service. Reoccurring tech issues are rare and usually very easy to solve. Turning things off and back on again typically fixes most issues.
